NWN Lexicon - February 2003 Release

The fifth release of the Lexicon includes many fixes to errata discovered and brought to our attention via e-mail. Also included are new definitions for functions previously undefined, and documentation current of NWN patch 1.28.

Nearly all, if not all, of the ResRefs/Tags for items, placeables, and creatures should now be correct (special thanks to Lilac Soul for much needed help in this area). The long requested VFX_* series of constants have been detailed and even screen captured by Mike Kenyon. We also have a series of tutorials explaining how to create cut-scenes to enhance player immersion in your modules by Roger Sandbakk, and an advanced tutorial and script on providing a custom WalkWayPoints() function contributed by Graziano Lenzi. Due to popular request, the Events portion of the Reference section received a major overhaul, using information written by David Gaider and harvested by Ian Baker from the official BioWare NWN Forums.

There are still many incomplete entries, as well as a short laundry list of items that will be done prior to the next release.

NWN Lexicon

The NWN Lexicon Project is intended to be a community-based NWNScript Language Reference and Resource Guide for BioWare's Neverwinter Nights role playing game.

The NWN Lexicon is always in development, with value added by errata and information provide by the NWN community. It is the intent of this project to make the most complete, concise, and easy to use reference available. Judging by community opinion it appears that we are succeeding in our goals - but in order to improve the quality of the Lexicon we rely on the gathered knowledge of the individual script writers and module creators.

Community Based

XML dumps of the data used to generate the NWN Lexicon is available free upon request for use in non-commercial programs or references.

If you are interested in helping by contributing to the project, the best way to help is to submit fixes for any errors (documentation, programmatic, spelling, grammatical, etc) you find within the Lexicon to our team. You can request XML dumps of the data or submit fixes by e-mailing webmaster@reapers.org. We are also trying to build the code examples for all of the functions detailed in the Lexicon and welcome small working code snippets of scripts that use functions which currently do not have a code example. Financial donations, while nice, are neither requested nor accepted.

Release Schedule

Our planned release schedule is once every quarter, unless a particularly large error must be corrected. This allows us ample time to integrate information submitted via e-mail to the project, research problems, and still pay the bills.

Future Goals

Resource Guide

It is difficult to find a particular resource, like a certain *.wav file, while in the module editor because none of the file names are very descriptive. After getting a healthy amount of data harvested we intend to begin working on associating keywords with the resources so when you want to find that specific "woman disheartened grief" sound file name, you can very easily by using our built-in search.

Status: In Progress.

Anonymous Contributions

We're going to add an anonymous comment system, similiar to that found in the PHP documentation. Comments will also be reviewed for integration into the official, downloadable version of the Lexicon.

Status: Not Yet Started.
